“What we call the modern metropolis is a ‘collection of engineered dismantlement projects’—where history’s continuum is persistently ‘severed here, destroyed there’—and therefore it is constituted by rifts. Art born in this context must employ a keen sensibility and a vibrant sense of presence to portray the cross‑sections of these fractures.”— Shōzō Fujita, A Brief History of “Photography and Society”
In the vast, ever‑evolving metropolis of Tokyo—with its ceaseless regeneration and continuous flux—countless fragments are endlessly produced. When these tiny fragments fall upon individuals, they become part of one’s personal life: the daily “Everyday.” By using photography to document these fragments, and continually recombining them, one can gradually outline the shape of Tokyo.
