「东京横断」是我在东京留学的五年时间里自西向东,横断东京这座城市所拍摄的东京城市景观的系列。拍摄的地点从西部的高尾的山区开始,直到东部作为入海口的葛西临海公园。
从神话时代开始,给事物命名便被认为是认识事物乃⾄认识世界的开始。⽽“地名”指的并⾮⼀件事物, ⽽是所有事物存在场所的集合。这些被记录下来的地名承载这个场所留存下的所有记忆和故事。我们⽣活的地⽅同样是由⽆数地名组成,在这些简单的⽂字背后,也蕴藏属于这个场所的⽆数记忆
平日里我经常乘着电车穿过这座城市。从郊外到都心,窗外的事物随着移动而飞速变化着。看着不断变化的风景,一个一个地名出现在我的眼前。东京这座巨大的城市正是由这些地名所组成,而这些地名在简单的文字符号之下,也是承载着某一片区域所有事物的集合。这些地名地名与地名之间的联系,也蕴藏了城市的历史与发展。于是我利用东京便利的公共交通,开始探索一个个地名,用相机对日常的景象进行记录。我认为通过这种从点(地名)到线(从西向东),再从线到面(东京全域)的方式,可以从某种程度逐渐理解东京这座城市的样子。
我选择了用 6x9 中画幅黑白胶片相机,架在独脚架上进行拍摄。使用独脚架是为了在拍摄过程中既有灵活性,也保持统一的角度进行拍摄。而 6x9 的画幅让我可以在画面中得到大量的信息量。采用这样的拍摄方法,是为了在拍摄过程中,不强调也不夸张,客观的且全面的记录这座城市本身的细节。
“Tokyo Traversal” is a series of urban landscape photographs of Tokyo, shot during my five years studying in the city, traveling from west to east—from the mountainous western area of Takao Mountain to Kasai Sea Park, where the city meets the sea.
Since ancient mythology, naming things has been considered the starting point of understanding objects and even understanding the world. “Place names” are not individual things—they are aggregates of all things that exist in that place. These recorded toponyms carry every memory and story preserved in their location. The places we inhabit are likewise made up of countless place names. Behind these simple words, there dwell innumerable memories tied to that site.
Each day I ride the train across the city. From the suburbs to the urban core, the view outside the window morphs rapidly as the train moves. As I watch the shifting scenery, one place name after another appears before me. Tokyo, this immense metropolis, is made up of these place names—each one, under its simple typographic form, embodies the aggregate of everything in that area. The relationships between place names also reflect the city’s history and evolution. So, using Tokyo’s convenient public transport, I set out to explore each name—documenting everyday scenes with my camera. I believe that by working from points (individual place names), to lines (my west‑to‑east traversal), and finally to a plane (the whole of Tokyo), one can gradually come to understand what this city is like.
I chose a 6×9 medium‑format black‑and‑white film camera, mounted on a unipod. The unipod gave me flexibility while maintaining a consistent viewpoint. The 6×9 format allows for a wealth of detail in each frame. This approach was intended to record the city’s details objectively and comprehensively—without emphasis, without exaggeration—simply presenting Tokyo in its own right.
